The below link is the accident report of a Bonanza pilot that lost an engine. Sadly the report indicates if the pilot would have done a few things differently he would still be alive today. A few Takeaways:
- Take time and practice engine failures with your CFI
- When the engine fails close to the ground the pilots job is to get the plane on the ground safely. Don’t worry about landing into the wind, getting the gear down, ect
- Constant speed props have a great deal of drag at high RPM, pull the prop control to low RPM to extend your glide
The only way to be prepared for emergencies is to practice, get out and fly!
