Foreflight ADS-B Radar Comparison

We have had enough experiences with weather, or lack of being able to see it in the cockpit. In the summer of 2013 we became proud owners of a Stratus 2 ADS-B receiver which has greatly enhanced our situational awareness when we are flying.

Comparing Stratus ADS-B Radar Image to Foreflight “Traditional” Radar

When we started using the Stratus we were curious how the traditional radar you get with Foreflight through WIFI or cell service compares to what is seen through and ADS-B connection. The images below compare the two. Thanks to a late fall convective cell that came right over our house we can start the comparison.

February 13th 2014, brought a winter storm that dropped 8-11 inches of snow in Minnesota. Note the comparison between the ADS-B image and the WIFI internet image. The ADS-B images do not differentiate the type of precipitation, as the WIFI image does.
